General Conference will meet May 10-20 in Portland, Oregon. Twelve elected delegates will represent East Ohio at General Conference, which is the top legislative body – and official voice – of The United Methodist Church.
General Conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy, and economic issues. GThe conference also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs.

Our conference will be represented at General Conference 2016 by six clergy and six lay delegates, who were elected during Annual Conference 2015 at Lakeside Chautauqua.

Rev. Dr. Gary George is administrative assistant to the bishop. Prior to being appointed to this role in 2006, he served on the Cabinet as superintendent, first of the Steubenville District (1999-2004) and then of the Tuscarawas District (2005). During his final year as a superintendent he was elected Cabinet Dean.
George received his first East Ohio Conference appointment in 1980 serving the Dellroy/Leavittsville charge. He was later appointed to Canton Dueber UMC (Associate Pastor), Canton Mt. Zion UMC, and Newcomerstown Christ UMC.
Rick Wolcott is Director of Communications for the East Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church. He was raised in The United Methodist Church and considers his position with the conference to be a calling.
Wolcott was confirmed at North Royalton United Methodist Church, was president of the youth group there and later served the church as Staff Parish chairperson. He also served in that capacity years later at the United Methodist Church of Berea, where he was involved in redefining the church’s Vision and Mission Statements, and setting new short and long term goals for the congregation.
